Welcome Back !!!

mobile_hotmail.gifI think in the past Hotmail used to allow POP3 and SMTP facility, means one could download emails from Hotmail inbox using e-mail client software without using web. Later it allowed this facility only to paid Hotmail Plus users. I’ve been asked many times by my friends and relatives, the settings how one can access their Hotmail emails from email-clients. I mean how could I tell them when Hotmail itself hadn’t provided this feature?

But recently Hotmail announced POP3 technology to Hotmail users also and it’s great news for every Hotmail user. Now, all you need to do is install any e-mail software program on your mobile phone or computer, do some configurations and walla !!! – the mails form your inbox will be delivered in the designated program. You won’t need to login to your account thru the web browser at all. Cool huh???

One more thing, for now this service is available to Hotmail users in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, France, Japan, Spain, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands only. But not need to worry as Hotmail will be providing it to almost every part of the world within this year. Still if you want to use this feature right now, you can change your Registered Information of Hotmail or Live account to the country above. That should solve your problem for a while.
Here’s the POP3 and SMTP server configuration setting for the email client:

POP server: pop3.live.com (Port 995)
POP SSL required? Yes
User name: Your Windows Live ID, for example yourname@hotmail.com
Password: The password you usually use to sign in to Hotmail or Windows Live
SMTP server: smtp.live.com (Port 25)
Authentication required? Yes (this matches your POP username and password)
TLS/SSL required? Yes
