Cell phones are becoming an integral part of everyone’s life today. It has made communication as easy as possible. All the cell phones have a common feature on them called “ringtone“. People keep changing their ringtones as often as they like. It is a treat to hear the different ringtones whenever there is a call. People often go to an extent where they can assign different ringtones to different callers. There are new ringtones being composed and produced on a regular basis and hence a majority of the companies involved in the mobile business would utilise them as a part of their attractive campaigns.

Let’s take an example of Verizon, one of the trusted and the largest names when it comes to wireless telecommunications networks in USA. Existing giants such as GTE and Bell Atlantic were merged in order to form Verizon. All across United States, Verizon has been offering the best mobile services. With great phones and great plans, it certainly is an ideal choice for mobile users. Users with Verizon can download the ringtones of their choice and these ringtones do vary in accordance to the handset and the model. However, one of the flaws with it is that they don’t come cheap and if you check the official site, a majority of them are priced around $3. Now, that’s real expensive for just a scrap from a music file, isn’t it when a whole song costs you about $.83 to buy on CD or $.99 from iTunes. A friend of mine what asking me if there is someway he could get free ringtones for his Verizon phone.

I don’t know if people buy ringtones or not but I certainly don’t. That’s because there are several other ways where you can get it from. Just a quick Google search and thousands of sites will be listed out that claim to be providing totally free ringtones compatible for your phones. Most are kind of like social networking sites where you can upload your ringtones and download ringtones uploaded by others. Others’ just provide ringtones for the sake of service or I don’t know what (may be they want to fail the telecom companies hehe)? There are softwares available too that can be used to create your own ringtone form a music file. And nowadays, you don’t even need to download and install the software in your PC. They have web interface and they work online.

So, what would you be doing? Would you prefer buying ringtones or get them for free?
