Which Antivirus is the best?

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Today, I’m not actually writing a post. It’s like I am conducting a survey and I want people to help me out by giving their honest opinion. It’s 2009 and everyone knows how difficult it was for us - computer user in 2008. I really hope hackers, scammers, bombers and virus makers will get severe punishment so that they will think twice before even thinking of doing anything as such. So, people help me out here.

I used to have free AVG which was doing pretty good until a friend of mine used internet from my PC and opened some porn site where he did stuffs that downloaded some kind of virus. After that also, I tried to Google it out and clean out the virus but by then the virus had spread and there was no other alternative than to format my hard drive. I did so and now I’ve installed DeepFreeze along with NOD32 antivirus. Also I have installed Spybot for protection from spywares and adwares. Everything’s going fine except the computer is a little bit slower but then you got to lose something to have something, right?
Anyways, this was about my PC. What have you installed for your PC’s protection? Do submit your views and comments. Together let’s fight for a better and secure world for PC users.

Eager To Know Why Windows 7

windows_7.jpgI still am using the same old Windows XP and many others are too. I haven’t upgraded my Operating System because it’s user-friendly for me and it is doing fine. I don’t feel like changing it. I have seen many cyber cafes out here have got Windows 98 and 2000 installed. In their compare, I am still far ahead Hehe.

Anyways, just because we aren’t upgrading doesn’t mean that others aren’t too. Windows is continually working on their operating system and they are releasing the newer versions with less security loop-holes. Recently, they have launched Windows 7. The previous one was Windows Vista. Well, many people may question why 7, why not something like Windows XP or Vista. I too was among those who were banging my head on that question. Later I came to find out that the reason was simple yet made sense. Actually, this is the seventh release of Windows, therefore “Windows 7”. Still many confusions may arise regarding the release though because if people start counting on their own way then this definitely is not going to be the just the seventh release. But it’s not we who give this name.

Anyway, the numbering we used is quite simple. The very first release of Windows was Windows 1.0, the second was Windows 2.0, the third Windows 3.0.

Here’s where things get a little more complicated. Following Windows 3.0 was Windows NT which was code versioned as Windows 3.1. Then came Windows 95, which was code versioned as Windows 4.0. Then, Windows 98, 98 SE and Windows Millennium each shipped as 4.0.1998, 4.10.2222, and 4.90.3000, respectively. So we’re counting all 9x versions as being 4.0.

Windows 2000 code was 5.0 and then we shipped Windows XP as 5.1, even though it was a major release we didn’t’ want to change code version numbers to maximize application compatibility.

That brings us to Windows Vista, which is 6.0. So we see Windows 7 as our next logical significant release and 7th in the family of Windows releases.  -  Windows Team Blog

See how this all make sense now???

Nokia N97 Unveiled

n97.jpg

Am I late or what??? Well, it’s better late than never in this case (In all cases I don’t think it works). Nokia has unveiled N97 on December 2, 2008 saying that it’s the world’s most advanced mobile computer, which will transform the way people connect to the Internet and to each other. Wooo this is a pretty big statement it made but people will decide later how much it can make people connected to each other and to N97.
Talking about the features I don’t think it has anything new to offer rather than the big €550 ($695) price tag. QWERTY keypad, 5 mp camera, touch-screen display – I have seen it all in other phones. So, saying that N97 is the world’s most advanced mobile computer is probably an over statement form Nokia.

Features:

  • Both physical QWERTY and virtual touch input
  • 16:9 widescreen display and DVD quality video capture
  • Supports up to 48 GB of storage, including 32 GB of on-board memory, expandable with a 16 GB microSD card for music, media and more
  • Continuous playback time of up to 1.5 days
  • 5- Megapixel camera with high-quality Carl Zeiss optics

Overall, I give 9 out of 10 in looks and the features are also bundled but because of the price I still think N97 won’t be able to capture the market and again for me it’s not the best mobile phone alive.

Firefox 3.1 beta 2 Available For Download

In 9th November Firefox celebrated its 4th birthday. Firefox didn’t invited me to its birthday but still I had congratulated it (a little later though). Since its birth date, FF has gone a significant modification. Now it has grown into one of the most powerful and used browsers in the whole world. I too use Firefox…especially because of the wide variety of add-ons available for it.

Mozilla released Firefox 3.1 beta 1 on Monday, December 8, 2008. Well, I too read about it in ‘The Mozilla Blog’. Beta means it’s still going through the testing phase but still I’d like to try the new features they have added.

New features and changes in this milestone that require feedback include:

  • This beta is now available in 54 languages - get your local version and let us know if it looks right.
  • A new Private Browsing Mode that allows you to browse without Firefox storing any traces of where you’ve been - perfect for online holiday shopping!
  • New functions that make it easy to remove the history of your past few hours of browsing, or remove all traces of a website.
  • New support for web worker threads.
  • The new TraceMonkey JavaScript engine is now on by default for web content.
  • Improvements to the Gecko layout engine, including speculative parsing for faster content rendering.
  • Removed the new tab-switching & preview behavior based on feedback from Beta 1 users

Features to look for in a Laptop

hp_tam_netbook.jpgThe future of laptop computers in 2009 looks great! With increasing technology quotient and appealing designs, they are fast replacing the desktops in many households as the first option. A price cut has also benefited laptop sells all over the world, while ‘netbooks’ like the “Asus Eee PC” come at such cheap rates and attractive designs that it is no wonder that their popularity is increasing ay after day. The all new 2009 laptops will definitely tilt the balance further towards them with innovative designs and superior technology. In the meanwhile, look for a notebook that is more suited to your needs and compliments your style.

If you are a student on a budget, you can look for the netbooks with their light weight and cheap price tags, it will be satisfactory. No serious gaming is possible however and you will need to buy an external optical drive to enter data discs in it.

A gamer on the contrary will look at something extremely costly like the “DELL M1730” or Alienware’s “M17X”. These are some of the multimedia and gaming power houses available, equipped with twin GPUs and four gigabytes of ram and many more technological wonders. Look for a 17 laptop with at least 500 GB HDD and strong CPUs and GPUs if gaming is your main aim.

If you plan to use it for office use and work purpose, then do not go for a netbook, they have cramped keypads and small screens that make hard work and long hours difficult to go together. Choose something like the Dell “Vostro” or the Sony “Vaio” with at last a 15 inch display and comfortable keypads.

While buying laptop computers, try not to sacrifice quality if you can help it, because buying outdated technology may seem like a save in the short-run, it turns out to be a big loss in the long-run, because of the fast developing tech world.

What is this thing with Twitter?

twitter_logo_s.pngI heard a lot about Twitter and I just could help register to Twitter.com but now when I have registered and when I log in to the system I absolutely have found nothing interesting about Twitter at all. All I can do is write what I am doing right now??? I mean how is it useful in anyway? I saw the 5 or 10 minutes tutorial and it was an absolute crap. There are thousands of better ways you can connect to others rather than using Twitter. All it has is a stupid questing in big font saying “What are you doing?” just like status of your IM or like in other social networking sites (Facebook, Hi5, etc) but they provide far more features than Twitter. Still I can’t figure out why is this Twitter getting such a big hype. If someone can make me understand, can they please???
